Aval kozhukattai recipe | Tribute to Jayashree - Raks Kitchen (1)

Sometimes we could not believe certain facts suddenly. Especially, if it is a sad news. I was in the same state when I came to know one of our blogger friend, Jayasree who blogged at Experiments in Kailas kitchen passed away from this world. She was one of few bloggers I know right from the days I started blogging.

She never failed to write comment on each post of mine, I too even if I miss few posts, I go back to the archive and make sure I write comment to her posts.

I have not interacted with her personally but I had a great respect towards her. Always admire her traditional recipes she had posted in her blog.

For few days I was feeling so bad and she is still in my memories and will be forever. And I took this opportunity to post one of her lovely post, when Lataji and few other fellow bloggers came up with the idea of posting tribute posts for her.

I tried one of her gems she had blogged here. This is a very healthy steamed snack/tiffin or even a breakfast or dinner. Very flavourful and easy to make and tastes awesome! Do try this out for your family and you will agree with me.

Serve hot with any chutney or sambar. It tastes as such very nice as a snack. So you can enjoy it as tiffin with tea/coffee too.

Aval Kozhukattai. They looked like the Undrallu so dear to Ganesh, but I find that they are made of atukulu ( rice flakes ) . Ilike atukulu, maramaralu, ( puffed rice), Futana dal , green chillies , salt, pieces of onion and green chillies mixed together with a dash of lemon juice to make adelicious chat. Need to try your Aval Kozhukattai.

    Hi Raji,
I tried this aval kozhukattai as dinner on new year's eve. I chose this, as i had to prepare dinner, that should be simple, less time consuming and easy to prepare as i go home from office. This one exactly matched my requirements and i got good appreciations from my huby and in - laws too. Thanks again.

    Hi Raks,
I tried out this recipe with a small change in the ingredients 🙂 instead of adding 2 cups of aval, i added a cup of aval and replaced the 2nd cup with oats 🙂 The output is a lot more healthier one and it tasted good too 🙂

hi raks ..i have been a gr8 fan behind ths recipe say for around 3 yrs from the cooking small booklets released by snehidhi book ..actually today i tried ur version to take a change from my normal one ..u have done it like the upma kozhukattai usually called as arisi kozhukkattai ...its just the poha , so i thnk adding it in boiled water and doing all those stuffs is even pretty time consuming ..here u go ! the actually very quicky one is u need to wash the poha (thick ones preferred ) ..then use those tempering wat ever u have said here and we can add ginger and hing for aroma , green chilli's finally ...add those in the poha , add coconut above it (say 1/4 cup) bcoz thats gonna realy make it delicious and soooper soft ...then give it a gud stir , if u want u can go ahead and add lemon juice too a small amt ...finally steam it for 10min or 5 min as u said ..thats enough ...OMG ! that wud be like heaven ..we can avoid the grinding part and the cooking part even ... but i liked the way u gave a pulse before making the dish , actually it gives a gud texture ...in the book they finished it by making coconut chutney ( just grind coconut , green chilli and split chick peas in small amt of yogurt ) and temper it as we do it normally for the chutney ...that was literally speaking HEAVEN RAKS ! try it sometime , if u havent .... iam sure u wud like that ! thanx !
