Shipping:

USA:
Most items ship from our warehouse in Milwaukee, WI, but if you are ordering a heavy or oversized item, we often have the manufacturer ship it directly to you to reduce shipping costs and save you money. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout based on shipment weight and destination. Eartheasy can ship to residential and commercial addresses in all 50 US States, but unfortunately oversized products do not ship to Alaska or Hawaii. If you are in Alaska or Hawaii and have your heart set on an oversized item, give us a call and we’ll try our best to help you with a freight quote. Unfortunately we do not ship to U.S. Territories or U.S. military installations at this time, but we are working on making these options available soon.

Canada:
Please check product pages to see whether your product is eligible for shipping to Canada, as unfortunately there are some products we cannot ship across the border. Canadian orders ship weekly on Thursdays via Purolator International and shipping costs include duties and taxes. Unfortunately, expedited shipping to Canada is not available at this time.

International:
Unfortunately we cannot ship internationally, including Mexico or freight forwarders. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Processing Time & Shipping Charges:
The "Lead Time" on a product specifies the number of business days for your item to be prepared by our warehouse. The Lead Time does not include the date the order is placed. This also applies for all shipping methods, including express methods. If your item is shipping freight, you will receive a call to schedule the delivery with your driver. If your shopping cart has multiple items, a shipping charge may apply even if some items are listed as "Free Shipping", as charges apply to items rather than total cart quantities.

  • Hardware Included – Rust proof screws, brackets, and hinges.

Assembly:

You can assemble this garden kit yourself, or have a local handyperson follow the instructions and set it up for you. Select a sunny and level piece of land for your garden.

All of our fencing sections are backed with 3/4" wire mesh. When the fencing is delivered, the mesh is already affixed. So, it takes only minutes to attach the fencing sections to the garden beds. Up close, it looks attractive, but from a distance you can't even see it.

Optional Automatic Watering System:

Cedar Complete Raised Garden Bed Kit - 8' x 8' x 20" (14)

Located at the back corner of the garden, this automatic soaker hose watering system takes even the simplest of duties out of your hands. We use a digital battery operated controller that is very easy to use. A garden hose can be connected to the unit, or the hose adaptor can be removed so the irrigation unit can be tied into your existing irrigation system with piping. When the controller turns on, water seeps out through the 75 ft. soaker hose. Includes:

  • Digital Battery Operated Controller - automatically waters your garden.
  • Soaker Hose - lay hose around your plants, cover with a layer of mulch, and water seeps out when the controller turns on.
  • Coiled Hose - conveniently mounted in the walkway of the fenced garden.
  • Sprayer - attaches to end of the coiled hose. You can manually spray your plants if you choose to, or use the hose to wash your hands.

This irrigation system works best if your water pressure (psi) is between 10 and 80. If the psi is greater than 80, the programmable timer in our system could be damaged. We recommend purchasing a water pressure regulator that will take your water pressure down to 40 psi.

Optional Lattice:

Add an 8' long lattice panel to your 8' x 8' Cedar Complete Raised Garden Bed Kit to expand your growing space for climbing plants, such as beans, peas, cucumbers and more.

The lattice can be attached to the rear of the garden bed or attached to either side, as shown in the diagrams at the top of the page.

  • 8' long lattice panel made from solid cedar 1×2 frame construction
  • Panelized sections are shipped in 4ft wide by 4ft high panels
  • The 8 ft. lattice includes two panels
  • Hardware and assembly instructions included

Cedar Complete Raised Garden Bed Kit - 8' x 8' x 20" (2024)

FAQs

Is cedar good for a raised garden bed? ›

Cedar is often considered the golden standard for building raised beds, and it's my favorite option to use.

How long will cedar last for a raised garden bed? ›

Most raised beds are constructed from lumber. Pine and other framing lumber will last about 4 to 5 years, while more expensive cedar will hang together for 8 to 10 years. Don't use redwood, which is an endangered species.

What size cedar boards for raised garden beds? ›

Cedar is a great outdoor wood and should hold up for many years. I made this 4′ x 8′ and 11-1/4″ deep. These dimensions are easy enough to keep all the math simple as you can simply cut three – 8′ boards in half. For the posts I used 4″ x 4″ cedar and whole thing is held together with 2 – 1/2″ screws.

What is the longest lasting raised garden bed material? ›

Concrete blocks or bricks: These building materials can be arranged to form the walls of your raised bed. They are safe, sturdy, and long-lasting. Stone: Natural stone can be a beautiful, durable, and safe choice for a raised bed. Galvanized steel: Galvanized steel is another option.

What wood should not be used in a raised garden bed? ›

Avoid using older types of wood treatments such as CCA, creosote, and Penta-treated lumber. Research from Oregon State University showed that pressure-treated lumber does increase soil copper concentrations by a minor amount, but only within 1 inch of the raised-bed edge.

Should I put rocks in the bottom of my raised garden bed? ›

A: You should avoid putting rocks in the bottom of your garden bed. A common myth is that this will improve drainage. Instead, this can actually increase water saturation levels as well as allow gravel to mix in with your soil, which can prove very difficult to remove later on.

Do I need to line my cedar planter box? ›

Planters do not always need to be lined. However, lining a planter has lots of benefits for both your plants and the durability of your planter.

How high should a raised garden bed be? ›

A 12-inch raised bed is a great minimum height for growing lots of delicious plants in the kitchen garden. If you want to grow larger vining plants like tomatoes, squash, or zucchini—plants that sprawl and tend to draw a lot of nutrients from the soil as they grow—you might move closer to an 18-inch raised bed.

How much does it cost to build a cedar raised garden bed? ›

Wood is typically the most affordable option for your raised bed material, even if you go with cedar. On average, a DIY raised bed constructed from wood will cost $25 to $50 per square foot. To have a wooden raised bed constructed and installed for you, budget for at least $100 per square foot.

What are the disadvantages of raised garden beds? ›

The cons of raised beds

The soil mix also can be a significant, albeit one-time, expense. Raised beds need water more often since the soil is more exposed to air and dries quicker. Similar to growing in containers, the extra watering can leach nutrients out of the soil quicker than in-ground gardens.

What is the cheapest method for raised beds? ›

What is the best material to line a raised garden bed? ›

As a final reminder, avoid lining your garden beds with plastic. Doing so prevents drainage and could drown your plants' roots with too much water. If you have a weed and pest problem, consider installing a combination of metal mesh and fabric or hardware cloth and cardboard to address both issues simultaneously.

What type of wood is best for raised beds? ›

The Best Types of Wood for Raised Beds

It's best to use untreated wood to build your raised garden beds, preferably a type of wood that won't decay quickly, such as cedar, redwood, or hemlock. Both the type of wood that you might find for sale and its affordability will vary based on where you live.

Is cedar mulch safe for vegetable gardens? ›

Although wood mulches such as chipped hard and softwoods, cedar, cypress and pine bark aren't used much in vegetable gardens, they can be used around perennial vegetables such as asparagus or rhubarb. Cedar and cypress will last the longest because they are resistant to decay.

Can cedar be used as a planter box? ›

I live in the Pacific Northwest and I am building a free standing cedar flower box… Cedar wood naturally resists rot and decay, making it suitable for outdoor use without treatment. However, if you desire to prolong its lifespan, you can apply a protective sealant or stain. Ensure proper drainage for your flower box.

What do you put in the bottom of a raised garden bed? ›

Layer the bottom with cardboard or newspaper as a weed barrier, which will decompose over time. Then, use a mix of yard waste, leaves, grass clippings, and kitchen scraps layered with soil and compost.
