Tigers' Beau Brieske: Takes loss Friday
Rotowire
Brieske (2-4) allowed two unearned runs on two hits across 1.1 innings of relief to take the loss Friday against the Athletics. He walked one and struck out one.
Brieske was tasked with extending the game beyond the 13th inning after giving up a game-tying sacrifice fly in the 12th, but he allowed Seth Brown to deliver the walkoff single. The righty reliever snapped a streak of three straight scoreless appearances, though with the runs being unearned, he lowered his ERA since the beginning of August to a strong 2.45. For the season, Brieske has a 4.14 ERA and 56 strikeouts across 54.1 innings.

Tigers' Parker Meadows: Drives in two Friday
Rotowire
Meadows went 2-for-7 with a double, a run scored and two RBI in Friday's 7-6, extra-inning loss to the Athletics.
Meadows now has consecutive multi-hit efforts as he continues to receive opportunities to pace Detroit's offense from the leadoff spot. The 24-year-old is batting an even .300 since the beginning of August with 14 extra-base hits and an .849 OPS. Meadows is locked in as a regular for the Tigers in center field, which should allow him to build on his recent success.

Tigers' Riley Greene: Four hits in 13-inning loss
Rotowire
Greene went 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Athletics.
Greene supplied RBI singles in the fifth and 12th innings, giving the Tigers a one-run lead each time. Prior to Friday, he had gone 11 games without a multi-hit effort, batting just .175 (7-for-40) in that span. The outfielder is up to a .260/.353/.479 slash line with 20 home runs, 60 RBI, 69 runs scored, 25 doubles, five triples and four stolen bases over 117 contests this season.

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Falls just short of quality start
Rotowire
Skubal allowed two runs on nine hits and struck out seven without walking a batter in a no-decision versus the Athletics on Friday.
Skubal pitched well, but he came up an out short of a quality start after the Athletics were able to create traffic on the basepaths in the sixth inning. On the bright side, Skubal recorded at least seven strikeouts for the 10th time in his last 12 starts, and this was the fourth outing in a row where he didn't issue a free pass. The Tigers' ace is at a 2.53 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 208:33 K:BB through 174 innings over 28 starts this year. Skubal is lined up to make his next start at home versus the Rockies.

Tigers' Kenta Maeda: Pitches in middle relief Thursday
Rotowire
Maeda struck out one over 1.2 perfect innings out of the bullpen in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres.
Maeda hasn't made a start since July 9, but he's essentially maintained a rotation spot over the past two months while frequently operating as a bulk reliever. However, the right-hander was deployed in middle relief Thursday, with starter Casey Mize working five-plus innings before Maeda entered the game with one out and a runner on first base in the bottom the sixth inning. With Mize back in action following a recent stint on the 60-day injured list and with Brant Hurter and Ty Madden looking to have secured back-end spots in the Detroit rotation, Maeda appears poised to be used as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen.

Tigers' Casey Mize: Allows two homers in no-decision
Rotowire
Mize did not factor into the decision in a win over the Padres on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk over 5.1 innings while striking out two.
Mize got off to a rough start, allowing the leadoff man to reach in each of the first two innings while also surrendering two home runs over that span. However, he would finish strong before being relieved by Kenta Maeda with one out in the sixth. Mize has allowed three runs in each of his first two starts since returning from the injured list, though he's managed to get through at least five frames in each of those outings while posting a combined 6:2 K:BB. He'll look to secure his third win of the season next week when the Tigers host Colorado.

Tigers' Parker Meadows: Hits key grand slam
Rotowire
Meadows went 2-for-4 with a grand slam in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres.
Detroit didn't score until the ninth inning, which was when Meadows launched his grand slam, giving the outfielder his sixth home run of the season. Since getting called back to the majors on Aug. 3 after some early-season struggles got him demoted, Meadows is batting .301 with three home runs, 12 RBI and 16 runs scored across 26 games. The youngster seems to be taking a step forward and could be poised for a 2025 breakout.

Tigers' Tyler Holton: Records another save
Rotowire
Holton worked around a hit to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Thursday's 4-3 win over the Padres.
Holton has been seeing more save opportunities lately, as this was his third since Aug. 26, and he now has seven saves for the season. Jason Foley leads the team with 20 saves, but Holton has clearly emerged as a co-closing option in Detroit. The lefty's fantasy stock appears to be on the rise.

Tigers' Reese Olson: Throws 39 pitches in rehab start
Rotowire
Olson (shoulder) allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one across two scoreless innings in a rehab outing with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
Olson pitched in his first game since landing on the injured list July 21 and tossed 39 pitches, 24 of which went for strikes. He averaged 94 miles per hour on his fastball -- in line with his norms for the season -- and threw all of his pitches. Olson will still require a couple more rehab outings, but a return from the IL in late September appears realistic.

Tigers' Reese Olson: To begin rehab assignment
Rotowire
Olson (shoulder) is beginning a rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Toledo, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Olson has been sidelined since July 20 with a right shoulder strain. He most recently threw a 20-pitch live batting practice session and should increase his workload Thursday. Olson is expected to require multiple rehab starts before being activated.

Tigers' Trey Sweeney: Resting versus lefty
Rotowire
Sweeney is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.
Sweeney had started in 10 consecutive games, all against right-handed pitchers, but he will get some rest with lefty Martin Perez on the mound for the Padres. At shortstop Thursday, Ryan Kreidler is starting and batting eighth.

Tigers' Kerry Carpenter: Idle versus lefty
Rotowire
Carpenter is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.
With the Padres sending southpaw Martin Perez to the mound Thursday, the left-handed hitting Carpenter is taking a seat. In his designated hitter spot, Justyn-Henry Malloy has the start and is batting cleanup.

Rotowire

Tigers' Matt Vierling: Homer, stolen base in loss
Rotowire
Vierling went 2-for-5 with a solo homer, a stolen base and two runs scored in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Padres.
Vierling kicked things off for Detroit with a two-out solo homer in the top of the first before also reaching on a fielder's choice play in the third. He would then come around to score on a Colt Keith single after stealing second, marking his third multi-run effort in his last eight starts. Vierling also tallied a single in the contest, giving him back-to-back multi-hit games and he's now hit safely in 11 of his last 13 games overall. Over that latter stretch he's batting .340 (16-for-47) with two homers, four doubles, five RBI and nine runs scored.

Tigers' Keider Montero: Can't get through five frames
Rotowire
Montero did not factor into the decision in an extra-inning loss to the Padres on Wednesday, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks over 4.1 innings. He struck out two.
Montero held the Padres scoreless through the first three innings before failing to retire three of the first four batters in the fourth -- the latter of which would take the right-hander deep for a three-run shot. Montero then went on to surrender another two runs in the fifth as San Diego tied the game at 5-5, and he would not make it through the frame, marking his shortest outing since June 26 against Philadelphia (span of 11 starts). The five runs allowed on the night matched a season high for the 24-year-old and he's now given up multiple runs in each of his last three starts. Montero has also issued multiple free passes in five-consecutive outings.
